Sailing Therapy

Sailing therapy is a unique psychotherapy method, which is based on being at sea, sailing with different boats (sailing boats, kayaking, motorboats, yachts etc..), and connecting the contents and therapy materials to the internal world of the patient.

The time we stay at sea allows us to see actually how different mechanisms works, such as ADHD, anxiety, stress, depression, social difficulties etc.., and gives us an opportunity to intervene en vivo.

Motorboat- A strong and fast vessel, which can deal with different types of waves and sea. The motorboat is designed for group therapy, or individual therapy, and allows the patients to experience control, speed and decision making, and gives a potential space to examine impulsive behavior and skills of self calming and adjusting.

Kayak- an easy to control vessel, which is designed to sail through quite and rough sea, focusing on being close to the water but staying safe and stable. The kayak theme is about controlling and maneuvering, coordination and rhythm, cognitive skills and decision making, and 'long distance running'.

Yacht- a large sailing boat for group sailing, between 3- 12 people. The yacht  allows to practice teamwork, communication, management and different group roles. During sailing we look at relationship between the group members and we use the boat as a potential space for bringing the relation into conscious.

Sailing boat- A boat which is designed for 1 or 2 persons, and constitute a solid and stable base for learning seamanship. The sailing boat also gives the sailor a sense of control on the boat, allows concentration and cognitive skills such as decision making, planning and focusing.
